Substitute Teacher Information
Please be advised the NEW Substitute Teaching Licensure Application is now available on the ODE web site. ONLY the applications with the 01/2010 date (located at the bottom of the application) will be accepted.
Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching. Our schools are stronger when we have qualified substitute teachers as part of our educational team. The Southern Ohio ESC is dedicated to helping districts maintain a pool of qualified substitute teachers. We will help you follow the procedure outlined by The Ohio Department of Education. Be forewarned it will take 3 to 6 weeks to process the paperwork after all paperwork has been received.

The following items must be complete before the substitute teacher orientation.
1.Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Federal Bureau Investigation Fingerprints (may be done at our offices in Clinton and Highland County). For a schedule select the following link: Finger Print Schedule In Clinton County contact Judy Cottle or 937-382-6921 for an appointment.
In Highland County contact Jennifer McKenzie or 937-393-1331 for an appointment.

You will need a BLANK money order for the appropriate amount at the time of your scheduled Fingerprint.
2.Ohio Department of Education Substitute License Application-If you do not have a teaching license or certificate, a substitute license is needed. Complete the substitute license application along with official transcripts from the college (reflecting a BA or BS) you attended and $25.00(1yr.) or a $125 (5yr.) check made payable to Treasurer, State of Ohio. After you have generated the items above, Contact Judy Cottle (937-382-6921) or Jennifer McKenzie (937-393-1331) and arrange an appointment for your fingerprints (if needed). Paperwork can be submitted at any time to either the Clinton or Highland County office. Applicants only need to submit to one of the offices. These papers will be examined at our office. After approval of the application, it is sent to the Ohio Department of Education.
After your substitute license has been received at our office, Orientation is required. Orientation is conducted monthly at 9:00 A.M. at the Southern Ohio ESC Office, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington, Ohio, 45177 for both Clinton and Highland County Applicants.
