BAC Speech Contest

At the December meeting of the Clinton County Business Advisory’s Council (BAC), five students from Clinton County schools participated in the BAC Speech Contest, reciting a patriotic speech written by Elmer Williams, entitled “I Speak for Youth.”  Iayie Viassy from Laurel Oaks Career Development Campus won 1st place and was awarded a $100 prize.  Other participants, receiving a runner-up prize of $25, were Clarissa Glass, Blanchester High School; Alex Merriman, Clinton Massie High School; Mark Blankenship, East Clinton High School; and Bridget Garnai from Wilmington High School.  BAC members, who include various business and school leaders, judged the competition which was held at the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center / Laurel Oaks Ag Center.  Monetary prizes were donated by BAC members.  Elmer Williams, the author of the “I Speak For Youth” was present to assist with judging and also acted as the Clinton County BAC Emeritus Chairperson.

Ohio’s 86th House Representative Cliff Rosenberger assisted with judging the BAC Speech Contest and he commended the individuals who participated in the speech contest. "The art of communication is an important skill in many facets of life and public speaking is a key part of effective communication.  I encourage all young people to invest in their communication skills, as it will benefit them greatly in the future.”  The participants were all very impressive as they recited their lines, and I challenge them to continue to develop these skills.

Iayie Viassy, from Laurel Oaks, was named the winner of this year’s Clinton County Business Advisory Council Speech Contest. Mitch Culbert, Dean of Instruction with the Laurel Oaks Career Development Campus, presented Viassy with the winner’s plaque.
