Professional Learning: Ohio Writing Project

Ohio Writing Project

at Miami University presents:

Workshop on the Teaching of Writing
at
Southern Ohio ESC
3321 Airborne Dr
Wilmington, OH 45177

The Writing Workshop for the Ohio Writing Project is a program where teachers glean innovative ideas from each other.  The class focuses on reminding you of why writing is important to both learning and the development of student identity.  The OWP motto is that “teachers are the best teachers of other teachers.”  Are you tired of the boring philosophy classes that won’t be practical help to your instruction?  Come join us; we leave with countless lesson ideas and handouts to take directly into the classroom.  Not one day here is wasted.

Teachers from all grade levels have come together in this four-week summer workshop to study contemporary approaches to the teaching of writing and to share with one another their best classroom techniques. They are attending workshops and presentations given by outstanding OWP/WINS teacher associates (grades K-12). Teachers that are attending these workshops will be able to return to the classroom with ideas, suggestions, and strategies for assigning, receiving, and evaluating writing. Teachers are developing their own writing and editing skills and learning ways to implement Ohio’s Language Arts standards. Participants are enjoying extended periods of free writing time, small peer editing groups, and individual conferences with workshop leaders.
