Wilmington College Immersion Program

The Immersion Program at Wilmington College offers High School students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, deferring graduation, the opportunity to participate in vocational experiences, career exploration and college coursework (auditing college classes). High school students will also develop independent living and self-determination skills and engage in social activities, all on the campus of Wilmington College.

Program Structure                        

    The Immersion Program is a one year certificate program with a focus in the following areas:

  1. Employment – vocational instruction, work experience through unpaid internships on campus, and career exploration with the goal of obtaining and sustaining competitive employment. Students will participate in the Envision IT online curriculum.

  2. Self-Determination – students will direct their academic planning and career development through person - centered planning.

  3. Independent Living – students will develop skills through campus and community experiences and accessing classroom curriculum.

 

     The Immersion Program provides the following services:

  • Career Exploration

  • Job Development and Coaching

  • Service Coordination

  • Online Vocational Training program

  • Instruction from a licensed Intervention Specialist

  • Transportation from participating school districts

  • Technology Training

  • Work Experiences and Job Placement

  • Mentoring

  • Evidence-Based Practices:

  • Envision IT curriculum

  • SDLMI (Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction)

  • SIS-A (Support Intensity Scale– Adult)

  • OMJ (Ohio Means Jobs) Backpack

  • Backward Planning Tool
