22nd Annual Franklin B. Walter Award
The Franklin B. Walter (FBW) All-Scholastic Award was created in 1990 by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) to honor Franklin B. Walter past Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ohio and to recognize one top student scholar from each county in Ohio. Franklin B. Walter served as state superintendent from March 1977 until August 1991.
Each year the SOESC honors one student from a local school district in Adams, Clinton, Fayette and Highland County to be the (OESCA) Franklin B. Walter Award Recipient.
All students were honored and received the award at the awards luncheon held in Columbus on April 13, 2011. Award recipients must have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement as well as other significant school and community accomplishments.
The SOESC would like to congratulate all FBW award winners.
Jamie Witherby is Clinton County's Franklin B. Walter
All Scholastic Award Recipient
Jamie Witherby, a senior at Clinton-Massie High School has been honored by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association and the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center as Clinton County's 2011 Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award winner.
Ms. Witherby plans to further her education abroad and focus on international studies and pull out a career option from the many different branches of communications and affairs that are paired with the studies of the world.
Ms. Witherby is a member of the Elite Honor Roll and active in school musical and Key club service projects. Ms. Whitherby has participated in many clubs and won various academic awards. Next to traveling, taking the stage is her favorite activity and she plans to continue sharing her passion locally in the future.
Commenting on her goals, Ms. Witherby stated, What I do know for sure is that I have a passion for the world and all of its rich variety of cultures and people. More than just goals for my future, I have expectations of experiencing them all, professionally and personally."
Jamie is the daughter of Howard and Jo Beth of Clarksville.
Aaron Sollars is Fayette County's Franklin B. Walter
All Scholastic Award Recipient
Aaron Sollars, a senior at Miami Trace High School has been honored by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association and the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center as Fayette County's 2011 Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award winner.
Mr. Sollars plans to further his education by attending The Ohio State University and earning a degree in agricultural business and applied economics.
Mr. Sollars is a member of the Miami Trace High School National Honor Society and is the Treasurer of his chapter. He has also received the highest honor for an FFA student at the state level award, the FFA State Degree. Mr. Sollars has participated in many clubs, sports and won various academic awards. He is also a member of the Superintendent's Advisory Council, assisting the superintendent in improving the Miami Trace School district.
Commenting on his goals, Mr. Sollars stated, One of my long-term goals is to return to the family farm with the knowledge I receive at Ohio State. I want to become a valuable addition to our grain operation by being able to understand the proper way to do business and how things like the commodity markets work."
Aaron is the son of Jeff and Bridget Sollars of Washington Court House.
Lisa Rhonemus is Highland County's Franklin B. Walter
All Scholastic Award Recipient
Lisa Rhonemus, a senior at Lynchburg-Clay High School has been honored by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association and the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center as Highland County's 2011 Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award winner.
Ms. Rhonemus plans to further her education and would like to be a teacher, coach or camp counselor.
Ms. Rhonemus is a member of the Lynchburg-Clay High School National Honor Society, and enjoys being a counselor for 4-H camps and is a Counselor in training for the YMCA. Ms. Rhonemus has participated in many clubs, sports and won various academic awards. She is an active member of 4-H where he has also obtained many awards, including Clinton County Pork Industry Queen, 2010.
Commenting on her goals, Ms. Rhonemus stated, I don't care how much money I make because that won't carry on when I die, but the children I meet when I become a counselor or teacher will be impacted by influence which will affect them for the rest of their lives."
Lisa is the daughter of Neil and Diane Rhonemus of Lynchburg.
